The funny bone · Why hitting your elbow feels electric
The ulnar nerve, which runs to your pinky side, passes over the inner elbow with little padding. With no muscle or fat in the way, a bump hits the nerve directly and the zing shoots down to your fingers. In English it's called the 'funny bone', though it isn't a bone.
